The 47 Ronin, Act 6: The Departure of Okaru and the Suicide of Kampei - Handsome illustration from the classic kabuki play based on the true story of the 47 ronin. The beautiful young Okaru has been sold to a brothel and is being carried away by palanquin at upper left. Inside the house, her husband Kampei recoils as he is accused of killing his father-in-law by two visiting samurai. Terrific detailing in the shabby household setting, with cracks in the plaster, a straw raincoat and hat hanging on the wall, and a gun on a rack inside. Nice burnished detail in the black areas.
