Series; The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers (Kanadehon Chushingura),1847 - 1852

The 47 Ronin, Act 6: The Departure of Okaru and the Suicide of Kampei - Interesting interpretation of Act 6 of the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the drama about the 47 ronin. Here, Okaru prepares to bathe her husband Kampei's feet in a shallow tub of water after he has returned from hunting. At right, his elderly mother-in-law has taken his gun to put it away. At left, the owner of a brothel has arrived to take away Okaru, who has sold herself to earn the money for her father to take part in the vendetta against Moronao. An unusual depiction of this scene.
