Twenty-four Accomplishments in Imperial Japan - Yoshitoshi's late series "Twenty-four Accomplishments in Imperial Japan" highlights important figures throughout the history of Imperial Japan, from both legend and real life. These terrific images include valiant samurai, brave retainers, loyal wives, and fantastic demons. Beautifully drawn with a wonderful sense of realism and finely printed with rich jewel-tone colors, these designs are a great example of Yoshitoshi's mature artistic style. A great choice for a Yoshitoshi collector.

Governor Hideyoshi Cuts a Melon, 1887 - Hideyoshi is the great warrior who in this print is tracking Akechi Mitsuhide to avenge the murder of Oda Nobunaga. Shortly before the battle in which he is successful in his hunt, a peasant brings the warriors melons harvested from Nobunaga's lands. According to legend, Hideyoshi cuts a melon down the middle and swears that will be the fate of the traitor Mitsuhide. An outstanding and dramatic print illustrating this story in Yoshitoshi's signature style, enhanced with a dusting of mica in the softly shaded sky.
