Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauties under Wisteria

Comments - Attractive scene of beauties in a pavilion overlooking a pond, with wisteria blossoms hanging overhead. The woman at upper left holds a rice cake, possibly to feed the fish bobbing to the surface of the water behind the group. The beauties wear colorful outer robes over white and red under robes tucked into red pants, the legs trailing beneath their feet. In the distance an arbor covered with wisteria lines the shore. A charming design, detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and accents of metallic pigment have oxidized to a dark tone on the robes and hair ornaments.
