Cormorant Fishing at Nagara River

Comments - Terrific depiction of cormorant fishing on the Nagara River, a time-honored tradition. The fishermen use cormorants tied to ropes to catch the fish, with a ring around each bird's neck to prevent it from swallowing the larger fish. The light from fire baskets hanging over the edge of the boats attracts the fish. A handsome depiction of this traditional fishing method, nicely detailed with fine bokashi shading in the night sky and the flames and smoke. Published by Uchida with publisher's seal at upper left.
