Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Fishing, 1895

Comments - Charming image of a beauty and a young boy in a boat fishing. The woman smiles over her shoulder as she holds a fishing pole in one hand and the line in the other. The young boy in front of her leans over the water, using a net to try to catch the koi fish bobbing about the surface. A smaller child sits in the front of the vessel, looking up at the sky, while at right, another woman carries a little girl on her back. A willow tree gracefully frames the scene. Lovely color in the elegant kimono and obi fabrics, with soft bokashi shading in the water and sky.
