Ryaku-reki - Popular during the Meiji and Taisho eras, "ryaku-reki" are single page, abbreviated calendars. Most feature auspicious imagery to bring good fortune throughout the year, such as objects associated with the Seven Lucky Gods, treasures, cranes, and pines. Some include the animal of the zodiac for that year, while others depict figures or objects from daily life. These attractive designs feature the calendar inset against a vibrant red background framed by a vignette. Many include silver or gold mica accents or metallic pigment. An interesting genre of Japanese woodblocks.
