Beauties Dressed as Street Knights, 1858 - Interesting kabuki double portrait of Ichikawa Dannosuke V as Maboroshi no Ocho and Nakamura Tsuruzo I as Mikazuki Osen. The two women are shown as otokodate or street knights, a traditionally male role. Each carries a single sword, and a shakuhachi flute is visible above the seated woman's back. She grimaces up at the young beauty, who smiles happily as she adjusts the towel over her shoulder. Nicely detailed with soft shading on the kimono and background, and embossing on the white kimono collars.
