Series; The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers (Kanadehon Chushingura),1847 - 1852

The 47 Ronin, Act 7: The Ichiriki Teahouse in Gion - Great scene from the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," based on the true story of the 47 ronin. A raucous party is taking place at the Ichiriki Teahouse, with guests and beauties gathered around a low red lacquer table piled with refreshments. One of the women teases a customer, poking at his head with chopsticks, much to the amusement of the party, who laugh and clap. In the background, Yuranosuke confronts the beauty Okaru on a verandah after catching her trying to steal a look at a secret message he was reading. A terrific design with wonderful detail, and an unusual interpretation of this particular act.
