The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Handsome scene from a Kunisada series illustrating the kabuki play about the 47 ronin, "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" (Kanadehon Chushingura). Beginning with the helmet inspection at the shrine and culminating in the laying of Moronao's head at Lord Hangan's tomb, Kunisada illustrates the story with great drama and wonderfully detailed settings, each design framed by the ronin's traditional black and white dogtooth border. A nice choice for a collector interested in this classic tale of honor and revenge.
