Noh and Kyogen Prints - Interesting design from a Meiji era series by Nomura Bunkyo depicting Noh and Kyogen plays. Kyogen is a traditional form of Japanese comic theater, often performed during the intermissions of Noh plays and designed primarily to make audiences laugh. Actors use exaggerated actions and dialogue, along with slapstick and satire in their roles. These colorful characters are nicely detailed, and some feature deluxe publishing treatments such as mice. A rarely seen series and a nice choice for a collector interested in traditional forms of Japanese theater.
