Comments - Charming scene from the "Tale of Prince Genji" of a prince watching proudly as his wife plays with their young daughter, the beloved "little cherry" tree of the title. The beauty holds the tiny princess up in her arms, smiling happily as the little girl reacts with delight. Ladies-in-waiting are gathered around, enjoying the child's amusement. Blossoming cherry trees frame the verandah, a shower of delicate petals falling across the floor. A lovely subject, beautifully detailed with a burnished diamond pattern in the black kimono of the kneeling woman. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
