Scene from Nezumi Komon Haru no Shingata, 1857

Comments - Terrific kabuki scene from the play "Nezumi Komon Haru no Shingata" of a man angrily confronting the beauty Otaka of the Koyamaya after finding a young man in her private quarters. He leans against a folding screen, a lantern in hand as she scowls at the woman. She looks up at him anxiously, holding out her kimono sleeve in an attempt to shield her visitor, Yokichi, who peeks out from beneath a tie-dyed quilt. The screen features a beautiful landscape of a lake at night framed by willow trees, and a robe is draped over a floor lamp at left. The actors include Onoe Kikugoro IV as Otaka and Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Yokichi. A handsome design with expressive faces and a nicely detailed interior setting.
