Comments - Lively scene of the procession to celebrate the promulgation of Japan's Constitution in 1889. In the center, the Meiji Emperor and Empress ride in a royal carriage as they leave the Sakurada Gate of the Imperial Palace, followed by soldiers on horseback. At left, colorful floats are carried through the streets, with crowds lining the road. Mt. Fuji can be seen at upper left, and clouds drift across the scene. A handsome illustration of this historic event.
