Nakamura Shikan as a Beauty, 1866

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as a beauty kneeling on a verandah. She turns her head away with an angry grimace, holding her sleeve to her chin. Her kimono features a bold pattern of large blue and green print stylized flowers and smaller blossoms, tied with a geometric patterned obi dotted with flowers. A blossoming cherry tree frames the night sky above the black lacquer railing behind her. An expressive figure in an attractive setting, with strong wood grain impression on the sky.

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 3/8"
