Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Matron and Young Nobleman, 1866

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a matron and a young nobleman inside a mansion. The woman kneels on the floor before the young, looking down with an angry scowl. The samurai watches her with a sweet smile, one hand resting atop the hilt of his sword. He wears a purple kamishimo shaded to pink with a pattern of blossoms and flowing water, the long pants trailing beneath his feet. A fine reed blind hangs behind him, the large purple flowers and gray geometric motifs decorate the panel at the back of the room at left. Nice detail in the setting.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 18 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two attached panels, backed with paper. A couple wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
