Each print illustrates a scene from a chapter in Murasaki's beloved "Tale of Genji," considered one of the greatest works of Japanese literature. Wonderful views of court life and travel during various seasons are documented with charming detail in the elegant clothing and settings. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this series in its collection. These attractive chuban format designs provide a fascinating look at upper-class life in Japan during the time of Genji.
