Dragonfly and Hibiscus

Jo (Hashimoto Yuzuru) - Not much is known about the shin-hanga woodblock print artist Jo (Hashimoto Yuzuru). During the 1920s - 1930s, Jo produced a small number of lovely kacho-e or birds and flowers prints in the vertical o-tanzaku or large poem slip format. After the death of noted collector Robert O. Muller in 2003, prints by Jo were found in Muller's collection, generating new interest in this rarely seen artist. Published by Kato Junji, these attractive designs feature lovely, delicate line work, fine detail, and deluxe treatments such as bokashi shading and mica. A lovely and rare kacho-e design with silver mice on the dragonfly's wings.
