Night Attack of the Soga Brothers

Series; One Hundred Views of Fuji

Night Attack of the Soga Brothers - Interesting scene from the famous tale of the Soga Brothers of their night attack on the Shogun Yoritomo's hunting camp at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Here, Soga Juro Sukenari, the eldest brother, leans forward with his sword in one hand as an enemy grabs him around the waist from behind. A cloth panel bearing the Minamoto paulownia crest trails on the ground, evidence of the fight taking place. An unusually quiet depiction of this dramatic subject.
