The Basho Pavilion at Sekiguchi - Attractive scene of a young beauty and an elderly woman enjoying a stroll along the water's edge at Sekiguchi. The older woman is hunched forward, leaning on a walking stick, looking back over her shoulder as the beauty gestures at the opposite shore. The beauty wears a light violet and white kimono decorated with irises in a metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone, with an embossed pink trim, tied with a deep blue patterned obi. Her companion wears a brown coat with delicate embossed lines over a gray-green kimono. The small house among the trees at upper right was the hermitage of the famous poet Basho. Beautifully rendered in soft watercolor-like tones. A peaceful, muted design.
