Moon Viewing, 1890 - Fantastic scene of upper-class ladies enjoying a view of the moon from the verandah of a fine house. A small girl sits on the edge of the deck, using binoculars to look up at the night sky. The enormous full moons glows softly, framed by pine branch and misty drifting clouds. One woman kneels beside a koto while the other holds a kokyu, a small instrument similar to a shamisen but played with a bow, which is resting on the floor nearby. Beautiful detail in the elegant furnishings, which include a western style clock on a shelf. A lovely subject with fine shading in the night sky.
