Beauty Being Ravished by Kappa - Unusual image of two kappa attacking and ravishing a diving girl. Kappa are mythological creatures or water spirits, depicted as either mischievous or evil. Here, the creatures grapple with a beauty underwater as she attempts to fight them off, surrounded by seaweed and curious little fish. Her companion watches from a rocky outcropping, holding her hand to her chin. A basket filled with abalone rests on the shore beside her and a pine tree frames the scene. A famous design from this Utamaro shunga series.
