Iwai Kumesaburo II as Katsuragi, 1827

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Iwai Kumesaburo II as the courtesan Katsuragi in the play "Oichiza Soga no Shimadai." She tumbles backwards beside a palanquin, throwing her arm out at her side with an angry frown. Her intricately patterned outer kimono features a design of thunder clouds on green bordering a blue and white plaid, worn over a red under robe with a green print along the hem. Willow branches frame the scene overhead. A nice expressive colored, beautifully colored and detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 10 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small loss at corner, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and marks, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
