47 Ronin, Acts 7, 8, and 9

Series; Twelve Continuous Acts of The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers, a Primer

47 Ronin, Acts 7, 8, and 9 - Terrific triptych featuring scenes from the popular kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura," which tells the tale of the 47 ronin. In a scene from Act 7 at right, Yuranosuke stands on the verandah of the Ichikiri Teahouse in Gion, looking up from his letter in dismay as he discovers the beauty Okaru spying on him from a balcony with a hand mirror. A spy hides below the floorboards clutching the torn end of the letter. In the center, Tonase and Konamai travel through the countryside past Mt. Fuji on the bridal journey in Act 8. At left, Act 9 takes place at Yuranosuke's country retreat, with an angry confrontation between the samurai Honzo and Yuranosuke's wife, Oishi as Yuranosuke watches from a doorway. A great design with the scenes creatively combined and attractively colored.
