Arashi Kichisaburo III as Nikki Yoshikiyo, 1851

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Arashi Kichisaburo III as the yamabushi or mountain priest Nikki Yoshikiyo in the play "Genji Moyo Furisode Hinagata." Kneeling on the floor of an abandoned country house, he pulls on a beauty's robe, looking up with an enraged expression, a string of prayer beads in his other hand. Autumn grasses and blossoms fill the garden beyond, and vines wind around the window opening at upper right. A great atmospheric setting, nicely detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at sides, wormhole, repaired. A couple light creases. Please see photos for details.
