Comments - Terrific illustration of the Hojo clan in action at the Battle of Konodai. In the center, a Hojo samurai charges ahead on a dappled horse, holding his spear before him. At lower left, several enemies flee from him, a few tumbling over the edge of a cliff in their haste to get away. At lower right, a warrior has forced his opponent to the ground, drawing his short sword to finish him off. Just above, another warrior holds the severed head of an enemy by the hair. A dramatic natural setting in the mountains overlooking the water, with Mt. Fuji in the distance and the banners and standards of approaching troops visible along the shore in the distance. A great design, also in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
