Soken (1759 - 1818) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Girl with a Doll Tanzaku

Comments - Lovely tanzaku print of a young beauty in an elegant kimono holding a doll. Her flowing robes feature a charming design of birds floating on water and white blossoms. Tanzaku or "poem slip" prints are narrow, vertical format woodblocks with a printed verse or space to write a poem. These charming prints often feature beautiful landscapes or peaceful nature subjects. This traditional Japanese form dates back hundreds of years, and is still in use today, with tanzaku decorating bamboo branches for the annual Tanabata Festival. A beautifully detailed reprint with fine line work.
