47 Ronin, Act 1

Comments - Handsome kabuki illustration of Act 1 from the famous play "Kanadehon Chushingura." In the center, the beautiful Lady Kaoyo has been asked to identify a battle helmet at the Imperial palace. She holds the helmet in her outstretched hand, a roll of tissues caught between her teeth. At right, the evil Lord Moronao stares at the beauty, waiting for the chance to make advances towards her, while her husband, Lord Hangan, watches her solemnly. He wears a voluminous yellow robe with his crossed hawk feather crest on the shoulders and sleeves, and a tall black court cap. The dark violet curtain behind the figures features a bold, colorful pattern. A lively, striking design with large, well-detailed portraits.
