Nakamura Fukusuke as Kurobei Danshichi, 1858

Comments - Handsome scene from the kabuki play "Natsu Matsuri Naniwa Kagami" of Nakamura Fukusuke as the street knight Kurobei Danshichi. The drama tells the story of Danshichi, who gets into an argument with his father-in-law and ends up killing him, an offense punishable by death. Here, he stands in the middle of a room, staring over his shoulder with a frown. He grips his sword with one hand, tucking up the hem of his boldly checked kimono with this other hand. A tobacco set rests on the floor nearby, and blue curtains patterned with an array of sea life, including an octopus, a lobster, a ray, and many fish, hang in the doorway. A nicely detailed design.

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight toning and soiling, paper slightly rippled. Please see photos for details.
