Cherry Trees in Full Bloom on the Banks of the Sumida River, 1878

Comments - Lovely scene of members of the Meiji Imperial court enjoying an outing to view the cherry blossoms by pleasure boat. A beauty stands in the front of the boat, moving it along with a bamboo pole, the prow ornamented with carved winged cherubs. Other women enjoy the view from a verandah above, framed with pink and white blossoms and colorful peonies. A charming design, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono and burnishing on the black kimono.
