Scene from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Comments - Interesting scene from the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," a historical novel written about the three warring kingdoms in 3rd century China. Here the three great leaders Gentoku, Kwanu, and Chohi pay a visit to Komei's house in winter. They wait outside in the falling snow, two of the men lifting their hats for a better look. The warriors wear snow-covered straw coats over their fine robes, the wind whipping around them. Through a round window at right, Komei can be seen reading a book at a table inside the snug home. From left, the actors are Onoe Kikugoro, Ichikawa Sadanji, Nakamura Shikan, and Ichikawa Danjuro. Nicely composed, with an attractive winter landscape setting.
