Comments - Striking woodblock print based on an earlier painting by Tani Buncho (1763 - 1840) of a tangle of tree branches, rendered in bold calligraphic line work against a white sky. A well-known Edo era painter whose works exist in museum collections worldwide, Tani Buncho founded a new school of painting called Nanboku goitsu or South and East School, which combined traditional Japanese and Chinese styles of landscape painting with realism and Western perspective. A great large-format print that would make a dramatic framed presentation.
