Samurai outside a Doorway, 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a samurai in a doorway at left, throwing his hand up in the air with an angry frown as he looks inside the house. In the center, a beauty pulled on a rope hanging from the ceiling looks back at the visitor suspiciously. At right, a kneeling man turns his face away, holding his hand to his face and gripping a sword in his other hand. A basin of water rests on the floor between the couple, and flower decorate the panels lining the back of the room. Beautifully detailed with a burnished pattern on the samurai's coat at left. Nice expressive figures in a well-detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 29 1/2"

Slight separation at ends and thinning along vertical fold at side of two panels, large losses at edge, a few holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, creasing and slight rubbing at edges.
