Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Kabuki Scene with Chanters and Musicians

Comments - Interesting design featuring a kabuki scene with chanters and musicians performing on a verandah above as if in the upper story of a building. At lower left, a man carrying a shamisen eavesdrops outside a doorway. Inside, a man in a black kimono sprawls on the floor, looking up with an alarmed expression and flinging his hands out at his sides. A standing man carrying a tobacco set scowls angrily at another seated fellow. A row of red paper lanterns hangs from the eaves across the top. An intriguing design with wonderful detail in the setting.
