Comments - Dramatic illustration from the night attack of the Soga Brothers on Yoritomo's hunting camp at the foot of Mt. Fuji. At bottom center, Soga Juro, with flowing black hair and a blue kimono patterned with birds, attacks Nitta Shiro, a retainer of Suketsune, his father's murderer, in the hunting camp. Both men battle fiercely in a driving rain, the ground littered with bodies and weapons. At upper left, a samurai holds a flaming torch aloft in the driving rain, gripping his weapon as he peers into the dark night. Tent walls emblazoned with the paulownia crest of the shogun hang from the pine trees framing the scene at right, as the rain falls relentlessly against the night sky. A great image from this heroic tale.
