Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauties at Kameido Tenjin Shrine, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Lovely scene of beauties visiting the famous Kameido Tenjin Shrine in Edo. At right, a woman crosses the steep drum bridge, holding up the hem of her robe as she carefully steps down the wooden slats. An ornate palanquin marked with the paulownia crest of the Minamoto Clan is visible at the bottom edge of the image. At left, elegantly dressed women relax under an arbor covered with wisteria vines, the delicate white blossoms contrasting against the sky. A fantastic design with wonderful detail in the elegant kimono fabrics, and soft shading in the water and sky.
