Chikanobu's Tale of the Heike - Terrific scene from Chikanobu's 1898 series based on "The Tale of the Heike," which recounts the epic twelfth-century Genpei War between the Taira (Heike) and Minamoto (Genji) clans for control of Japan. These dramatic designs illustrate clashes between famous warriors, meetings between military leaders, and legendary incidents during this warring period. Beautifully detailed and colored, these striking images feature lively color and attractive settings, many embellished with burnishing or touches of embossing. A great choice for a collector interested in this historic conflict. A rarely seen warrior series by Chikanobu.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Vertical centerfold, diagonal folds. Slight paper remnants on reverse at sides from previous mounting. Two holes, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
