Street Knights and Beauty, 1866

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of three otokodate or street knights gathered in an interior. In the center, the beauty Oyoshi of the Eshimaya shop crouches beside Washi no Chokichi beneath his heavy plaid outer kimono. He looks over his shoulder with a worried expression at Asahina Tobei, who stares back at him with a tight-lipped frown, one hand thrown out in a stopping motion. Another fellow watches at right, his brows furrowed as he carries a lamp. From left, the actors are Bando Hikosaburo, Kawarazaki Kunitaro, Ichimura Kakitsu, and Ichikawa Kuzo. Nice expressive figures in a well detailed setting.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)
