Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
View of Mt. Fuji Fan Sample Print

Comments - Attractive fan print depicting a courtier pausing along the shore beneath two pine trees to admire the view of Mt. Fuji. This design is a sample print from a Kyoto publisher. Sample prints were assembled into albums and sent to vendors or shown by salesmen as examples of the woodblock prints available for purchase from the company, with the publisher's inventory number stamped on the reverse. Used primarily in the Kansai region, these sample prints are rarely seen outside of Japan as they were never intended for export. A lovely design with an interesting provenance.
