Portraits of the Forty-seven Ronin, with a Biographical Sketch of Each Ronin - Terrific design from an intriguing 47 ronin series published in Yokohama in 1886 by Tanaka Umesaburo and sold by the Yokohama booksellers Matsumoto Seinosuke and Z. P. Maruya & Co. These attractive prints feature portraits of each ronin by Yoshitora, accompanied by a biographical sketch in English. These images are nicely detailed with touches of embossing and burnishing, and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the blades of the swords and spears. A great chance to acquire a classic 47 ronin subject with an unusual Yokohama connection, aimed at the Western market.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight toning, slight soiling at edges. Some prints have offsetting from the metallic pigment. Please see photos for details.
