Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play Scene from "Chiyo no Haru Tosa-e no Saya-ate" of three men struggling. In the center, Kojigoku Taro looks over his shoulder with a worried grimace as Shimobe Sarujiro pushes against him at right. Kojigoku Taro wears a striking black kimono patterned with swirling thunderclouds, his short hair sticking up atop his head with longer locks pulled into a low ponytail over his shoulders. At left, Nagoya Yamanosuke grabs hold of the end of one of Kojigoku Taro's swords. The large figures are set against a softly shaded night sky. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro I, Bando Kamezo I, and Nakamura Shikan IV. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair, delicate cloth embossing in the white towel, and handsome wood grain impression in the background.
