Scene from the 47 Ronin, 1884

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" (Kanadehon Chushingura), based on the tale of the 47 ronin. At left, Oboshi Yuranosuke, the leader of the ronin, looks up with a frown during a discussion with other a samurai. The man in the center looks back at him with a slightly worried expression, his lips pressed together tightly. At lower right, the samurai Genzo grimaces angrily at his companion. An inset above in the form of an unrolled scroll features text. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro, Nakamura Shikan, Onoe Kikugoro, and Ichikawa Sadanji. Nice large figures set off by a deep red background, with a screen at left decorated with colorful flowers.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling and ink offsetting. Please see photos for details.
