Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of the lovers Okaru and Kampei from Act 3 of the classic drama "Kanadehon Chushingura," which tells the story of the 47 ronin. Here, the beauty Okaru grabs onto the end of Kampei's sword as she falls backwards, looking over her shoulder with a sweet smile. She wears a blue and gray patterned kimono tied with a red brocade obi, flipping one sleeve over her shoulder. Kampei frowns as he looks down, angry that he was not at the palace to prevent his master, Lord Hangan, from quarreling with Lord Moronao. The curtain behind them depicts a landscape with pine trees framing a view of Mt. Fuji. From left, the actors are Sawamura Tanosuke III as Koshimoto Okaru and Bando Hikosaburo V as Hayano Kampei. A handsome design with an attractive setting, beautifully detailed with a burnished geometric pattern on the black kimono.
