Comments - Handsome five-panel scene of a festival procession in 1897 celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the transfer of the capital to Tokyo. Two bearers lead the way carrying heavy red lacquer trunks, followed by women carrying blue umbrellas and dressed in colorful kimono. Lion dancers are next, dressed in identical costumes of purple and red kimono tucked into yellow and green plaid pants, with straw hats decorated with large red peony blossoms. In the background, a group of yakko or footmen in short black kimono toss two fringed standards back and forth while other porters carry large chests. An attractively colored and detailed design.
