The ag of the Lonely House, 1890 - Dramatic depiction of the famous story of the hag of the Lonely House on Adachi Moor, an evil woman who preyed on unborn children to provide her master with blood to drink. A hideous old crone, she grasps a large knife with one hand, ready to attack her victim. A beauty cowers behind her, pleading and tugging on the hag's robes. At left, Kannon, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, appears in silhouette on a shoji window in the run-down shack to provide assistance to the poor victim. A terrific design and a great subject for collectors interested in this fascinating old tale.
