Series; Outer Chiyoda Palace (Chiyoda no on-omote)
The Shogun Making an Imperial Proclamation - Handsome triptych depicting an audience with the shogun at the palace as he makes an imperial proclamation. The shogun sits on a platform at right, holding a staff upright in his hand as he looks out with a stern expression. A daimyo kneels before him, bowing his head reverently, flanked by rows of noblemen on either side. Each of the men wears formal court attire, including a black robe lined with red and a trailing white sash, and a tall court cap. The robes of the large figures are burnished with a variety of different patterns, including floral and geometric designs. A cloud softly shaded with pale orange frames the scene across the top. A lovely, serene image, beautifully printed and detailed.
