A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Old Japanese Gallery Inventory - This print came from a large group purchased from the inventory of an old Tokyo gallery. The gallery, popular with foreign clients in the 1950s, went out of business when the owner died almost 50 years ago. Look for the old gallery mounts, with artist and subject identification in pencil in English, on some prints. Where applicable we’ve left the mounts intact (as seen in our photos). Great group offered for the first time in 50 years!

Special note - We were unable to positively identify this artist. There was an artist named Tsukioka Keisai who was active circa 1780s, and Keisai Eisen (1790 - 1848) is a well-known Edo era artist, but we do not know if the "Keisai" written on the gallery mount refers to either of these artists or to someone else.

Artist - Keisai

Image Size - 3 3/4" x 4 7/8" + margins as shown; backing sheet 12" x 8 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Mounted at top corners to backing sheet. Slight soiling, a few creases. Backing sheet has small tear at edge. Please see photos for details
