The 47 Ronin, Act 7 : The Ichiriki Teahouse in Gion - Wonderful image from Act 7 of the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the classic kabuki drama based on the story of the 47 ronin. Pretending to lead a life of debauchery to throw suspicion away from the vendetta, Yuranosuke pays a visit to the Ichiriki Teahouse. Reading a secret message concerning the plot, he looks up with a scowl as he discovered the courtesan Okaru watching him from the balcony at left. Below the floorboards at right, one of Moronao's spies sticks his head up beneath the trailing message, trying to read it. The actor Kataoka Nizaemon plays Yuranosuke. A great design with wonderful detail in the teahouse and garden.
