Beauties Playing Music on a Moonlit Night, 1895

Comments - Lovely triptych depicting beauties playing music. At left, a woman plucks the koto, while the beauty in the center plays a flute. A third beauty at right plays a shamisen, a young girl kneeling behind her smiling as she listens. An alcove holds three hanging scrolls, while stacks of books and scrolls rest atop a small cabinet at right. Outside, a full moon can be seen beyond the reed blind, and the evening breeze flutters a ribbon attaching to a paper lantern. Beautifully detailed with a burnishing cloud pattern on the borders of the hanging scrolls, and a dusting of mica across the sky, and embossing on the white kimono collars.
