Illustrated Books by Toyokuni III - Terrific two book set featuring illustrations by Toyokuni III. The full color covers form a diptych when placed side by side, and each book has 9 black and white diptych illustrations surrounded by text, along with one or two single panel images. These books are installments in novels that were issued in multiple parts. Cover subjects range from beauties and noblemen to samurai, sumo wrestlers, and designs with supernatural elements. The covers are beautifully detailed and printed, and the books have a traditional stab binding. A fun and unusual item. This is the first time we've come across these charming little books.

Condition - Covers with excellent detail as shown. A few small losses at edges, slight soiling, a few creases. Inside pages have slight soiling and rubbing at edges, one book has a small stain at top of most pages. Back covers have a few wormholes and small losses. Please see photos for details.
